Zimbabwe

Unforgettable Zimbabwe

Abundant in wildlife and rich in culture, Zimbabwe is a unique destination and ideal for anyone seeking roads less travelled. With over 65 000 elephants, it has one of the largest elephant populations in the world. Hwange National Park and Victoria Falls are great destinations for first-time visitors, while Lake Kariba and Mana Pools offer a more authentic experience for the frequent traveler. One may consider combining a trip to Zimbabwe with a trip to one of its neighboring countries, such as South Africa, Zambia or Botswana.

Hwange National Park

The park spans almost 14 650km2 and consists of mostly untouched bushland. Manned by some of the best-trained park rangers in Africa, the diverse habitats, from wide open grasslands to dense forests, offer the opportunity to see a variety of game. While Hwange is famous for elephants, it is not uncommon to come across herds of buffaloes and prides of lions too.

Mana Pools National Park

Mana means four in Shona, the native language of Zimbabwe, and it refers to the four large pools inside the park. Hippos, crocodiles and a large variety of water birds call these pools their home, while the many elephants frequent the pools to drink. Mana Pools offers exceptional walking safaris. Even on game drives, your guide may invite you to leave the vehicle and walk closer to the animals.

Lake Kariba

With a length of approximately 270km and a width of close to 40km, Lake Kariba is the largest man-made water reservoir in the world. Characterised by a unique coastline with numerous bays, small islands and tree trunks that rise out of the water, this place is a unique and peaceful oasis. Lake Kariba is known for its tiger fish – fishermen will be thrilled; and you are likely to be rewarded with sightings of elephants, buffaloes, hippos and crocodiles.
